Wheelchair seating assessment

The seating assessment series is designed to refresh basic principles required to complete wheelchair seating assessment. At the end of each module you can test your knowledge using a short quiz. While this course was developed in a paediatric setting, the content and framework presented is suited to all ages. This course could be used by community therapists to increase knowledge and enhance clinical reasoning skills. Therapists new to this specialized area of practice and students undertaking placements at specialized centres such as Sunny Hill could also benefit from working through this course as part of their orientation.

Course objectives

Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  • Describe and discuss the principles and general goals of seating.
  • Identify anatomical features and bony landmarks.
  • Complete a basic mat assessment including: information gathering, range of motion, body measurement and posture assessment.
